April boasts big news for the Schema App team. They have been selected to join Communitech’s Fierce Founders Accelerator. The accelerator provides early stage women-led startups six-months residency at the Communitech Hub, mentoring and business support from Communitech’s Executives in Residence team and access to large companies interested in partnering with startups.

The Guelph-based tech startup will re-locate to Communitech from April through September. Their goals for the accelerator include doubling their customer numbers, growing their team, and introducing innovative new products.
Co-Founders Martha and Mark van Berkel are not new to the tech scene. Martha has a degree in Applied Mathematics from Queen’s University and spent the first 14 years of her career at networking giant Cisco Systems Inc. There she was responsible for online support strategy and automation. Mark has a degree in Information Systems from St. Francis Xavier, a Masters in Semantic Technology and 13+ years doing SAP consulting and Information Architecture. Together they have a perfect match of tech savvy and the passion for solving real-world problems.
Already this year, Schema App has been in Communitech’s Fierce Founders Bootcamp Top 8 companies, one of 15 companies selected to attend the Canadian Consulate’s New York Accelerator, and now this. They are excited for what the future holds.
Schema App uses semantic technology to translate website content into the language of search engines to deliver better organic search results. The platform feeds essential information to Google’s new artificial intelligence (AI)-based machine learning algorithm to fully explain what websites are about and reveal the context of web pages relative to other information on the web. Martha van Berkel is the co-founder and CEO of Schema App, an end-to-end Semantic Schema Markup solution provider based in Ontario, Canada. She focuses on helping SEO teams globally understand the value of Schema Markup and how they can leverage Schema Markup to grow search performance and develop a reusable content knowledge graph that drives innovation. Before starting Schema App, Martha was a Senior Manager responsible for online support tools at Cisco. She is a Mom of two energetic kids, loves to row, and drinks bulletproof coffee.
